James W. Alverson Jr (MSgt USAF Ret) is the Offensive Coordinator for Victory Christian Center High School in Charlotte, NC. Prior to coming to VCCS he was the Head Coach at Christ The King (CTK) in Huntersville where he started the program and led the Crusaders to their program’s first wins. While at CTK Coach Alverson coached the school’s first All-State Athelte as well as 6 All-Conference players. Despite having only 23 season of total experience 4 of his 7 Seniors received offers to play college football. 
Before coming to NC Coach Alverson was the head JV Coach ans Varsity Quarterbackat Woodrow Wilson High School in Portsmouth, VA where he led the Presidents’ JV team to a 9-1-1 record, its first winning season since 1988, and help 18 out of 22 varsity Seniors move on to the college football ranks, two to Division I HBCUsWhile at Wilson, two of Coach Alverson’s three quarterbacks received at least 2 scholarship offers and the school had 13 all-conference, 16 All-City and 6 All-State performers. Additionally, the Presidents JV defeated 6 out of 7 rivals, including all four teams from neighboring Norfolk, VA. Coach Alverson’s team won both “Tunnel Titles” which included the 1st win in school history at Lake Taylor High School (Norfolk, VA). Prior to his stint at Wilson Coach Alverson served as the Wheatland HS (CA) defensive coordinator during which is defense surrender only 3 touchdowns over a 12 game season and won the NORCAR DIV-10 Championship. Between his time at Wheatland and Wilson, Coach Alverson was selected by to serve as Quarterbacks Coach for the 2015 Virginia National Guard “Futures All Star Game.” He was a position coach and served as the collegiate coaches’ liaison for six  757 regional combines before being selected to serve as Special Teams Coordinator during the 2016 Virginal National Guard All-Star Game for his work with Wilson’s kicker who was the first female to throw a touchdown pass in Virginia High School League history and his exceptional kick return average for both JV and Varsity. Jay retired from the US Air Force in March of 2016 after 21 years as an Imagery Analyst and Foreign Disclosure Officer. His assignments included the 27th Intelligence Squadron and the 480th Intelligence Wing at Joint Base Langley Eustis, Hampton VA. The 6th Intelligence Squadron, Osan Air Force Base Republic of Korea. The Joint Transformation Command for Intelligence, Norfolk, VA. Special Liaison for Human Intelligence to the Defense Intelligence Agency, Washington DC. Special Advisor to the Joint Detention Operations Group at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. The 13th Intelligence Squadron, Beale Air Force Base. He began his military career at Paris Island South Carolina in 1995. During six years in the US Marine Corps he served as a Public Affairs Non-Commissioned Officer, Recruiting Substation Columbia, SC. As the Peace Time / War Time Support Team Liaison for Delta Company of the 8th Tanks Btn, Fort Jackson, Columbia SC. And as Combat Engineer for Charlie Company of the 4th Landing Support Btn, Charleston Air Force Base, Charleston SC. His military awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Force Commendation Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, two Air Force Achievement Medals, Air Force Good Conduct Medal with three devices, the National Defense Service Medal with One Device, the Korean Defense Service Medal, the Air and Space Campaign Medal, the Selected Marine Corps Reserve Medal and the Armed Forces Reserve Medal with “M” device. Coach Alverson has a Bachelor’s Degree in Speech Communications, and Government and International Relations from the University of South Carolina, Columbia and a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) from Trident International University, Cypress CA. He is married to the former Brandi Jeffcoat of Columbia, SC and they have two daughters, Ashlynn Brianna, a Junior at Hough, and Natalie Oliva, a 5th grader at St. Marks.
